Bespoke Tweed Wedding Suits

We have been having fun over the last 2 years making wedding outfits for various grooms which mainly consisted of 4-piece tweed suits (which included a tie), 2-piece tweed suits or simply a tweed waistcoat teamed with an off-white shirt, 8-piece Ramber cap and/or tweed bow-tie.

The resurgence of the tweed look has been gaining momentum over the last 5 years as the classic English Country Gentleman look has grown in popularity again. So it should not have been a surprise to us that the bespoke wedding outfit for grooms would follow on the shirtails of the trend (excuse the pun).  The provenance of tweed is part of the attraction along with the benefits and properties which are wideranging and significant.  The vibrant colours (reflective of the landscape in which it is made), sumptuous texture, artisan production heritage all add up to a luxurious and discerning option for a special occassion.

I've always had an affinity with colour: the subtlties of the shades, the emotions that they evoke, the memories that they underpin.  My earliest memories growing up in my grandparents four storey Victorian house in Camberwell (teased and spoiled by 3 aunties and 3 uncles) is of being surrounded by abundant colour.  My grandmother's choice of softfurnishings and curtains ensured it was a warm enviornment reminiscent of the Caribbean sun.  The women dressed like a rainbow tribe but the men were more subtle and so sharp in their shot teal suits, plum knitted ties, crisp shirts finished with tie-pins and cufflinks. They definately had outfit pride!

I am always very excited to be involved in the special day of the grooms (and couples) who choose to include us in their outfit planning.  It is always a pleasure to discuss options from our tweed range that is produced exclusively for Cock & Bull Menswear by Breanish Tweed as well as discuss the finishing touches and accessory options that can make the outfit extra special.

New Collection Tweed Wedding Suits

As the Cock & Bull Menswear is about producing lifestyle items that journey into our everyday life we never planned to cater for weddings or special occassions so it has been a pleasure to have something that we did not set out to do become a small part of the Cock & Bull Menswear collection for 2016.

We have not yet told the story of how a Scottish artisan mill now weaves exclusively for us (that is the subject of another blog), but we are blessed and privileged to be in that very posiiton.  We would like to now offer a ready-to-wear selection of 2-piece and 3-piece suits from early 2016.

Put a sock in it! Men’s socks go bold – the brighter the better

Matching your ankles to your navy pant legs may be a good idea in the boardroom, but anywhere else the new way to wear men’s socks requires colour, clash and plenty of character. Here at Cock & Bull Menswear, we know a thing or two about how to work this trend while keeping things classy.

Menswear doesn’t always allow for an explosive palette, brimming with bold pops of colour and painterly patterns. Striking the balance between elegant and extraordinary isn’t easy without going OTT but a simple pair of socks easily adds a highlight of happiness with little investment and a large impact. If you’re not sure how to introduce strong hues and statement prints, approach cautiously with classic paisley styles, argyle knits and picnic checks. These allow for a play on contrast and texture without veering too far from the safety of traditional sophistication. Minga Berlin’s Picnic Anarchy Socks in Blue Denim add a splash of azure along with classic navy and royal blue – a colourful compromise with a punch!

For a more nonconformist take on this lasting trend, the Pixelate Socks in Quartz Leaf are Minga Berlin’s answer to the pink shirt. These red, pink, powder blue and azure checked socks may stand out but they’re a great fit for pastel shirts and dark denims. There’s also more effervescent options in zesty orange and yellow for the adventurous.

Remember that while the point is to add an eye-catching element to your outfit, there are rules to accessorising with bright socks. The first is to know your audience –  office wear can easily be offset with a bright check but it’s best to leave your neon striped socks in the drawer if you’re heading to a funeral or a court room…

Also important is your choice of footwear. Black lace-ups are trickier to work with so many favour the warmer tones of tan leather brogues or pale sandy dessert boots when wearing their statement socks. Whatever you do, remember to turn up the volume on vibrancy and you’ll lift your look from ordinary to awesome.

Press Release New Sustainable Organic Underwear Collection for Men

Organic Underwear | Sustainable Clothing

A brand new sustainable menswear line officially launches its first ever organic cotton underwear range this week.  East London brand Cock & Bull Menswear produces entirely in the UK from sustainable fabrics and yarns and manufactures short run and limited edition menswear staples. Its home grown underwear line is a 14-piece collection of boxer briefs in 'short john' and 'mini john' styles.

Believed to be the first organic underwear for men made entirely in the UK, the line has a strong emphasis on sustainability and artisan production. Production is facilitated by working closely with a team of knitters, colourists, printers and manufacturers.

Keeping their sustainability led processes under constant development and re-evaluation, Cock & Bull's current focus is on using organic and recycled yarns and fabrics, low impact and vegetable colouring and sustainable packaging such as biodegradable bags and FSC certified products. Production in the UK also ensures a lower carbon footprint and provides jobs within the UK manufacturing sector. The organic cotton used to make each boxer brief and tee shirt is knitted and coloured in Huddersfield, printed in Deptford and sewn in Derbyshire.

Designer A.A. Lindsay states: 'UK manufacturing is a point of pride in who we are and where we live; it is a part of keeping our supply chain close and being able to confidently shout about the quality of Cock & Bull garments. It supports people who we come into contact with, their families, our community and our economy. And it also positively affects our carbon footprint.'

Available in five shades (natural, sage, ash, Persian and plumb) the Short John’s range of boxer briefs are made from super soft 196 gsm organic cotton. They measure 35cm on the outside leg and are coloured using low impact dyes and pigments. The Mini Johns boxer briefs are 30cm long on the outside leg and have a front opening. They are available in five colours (including natural uncoloured and unbleached), printed or plain. All are priced at £22.

Cock & Bull Menswear also produce a limited edition range of tweed of caps (made in Yorkshire) and waistcoats (made to order in London). The hand woven tweeds are sourced from Scotland's Outer Hebrides and lined with a blend of organic hemp and organic silk (70/30).
Developments for SS13 include a capsule range of limited edition staples and knitwear and the label plan to show a comprehensive range for the first time in July at the Ethical Fashion Show, Berlin.
