Bespoke Tweed Wedding Suits

We have been having fun over the last 2 years making wedding outfits for various grooms which mainly consisted of 4-piece tweed suits (which included a tie), 2-piece tweed suits or simply a tweed waistcoat teamed with an off-white shirt, 8-piece Ramber cap and/or tweed bow-tie.

The resurgence of the tweed look has been gaining momentum over the last 5 years as the classic English Country Gentleman look has grown in popularity again. So it should not have been a surprise to us that the bespoke wedding outfit for grooms would follow on the shirtails of the trend (excuse the pun).  The provenance of tweed is part of the attraction along with the benefits and properties which are wideranging and significant.  The vibrant colours (reflective of the landscape in which it is made), sumptuous texture, artisan production heritage all add up to a luxurious and discerning option for a special occassion.

I've always had an affinity with colour: the subtlties of the shades, the emotions that they evoke, the memories that they underpin.  My earliest memories growing up in my grandparents four storey Victorian house in Camberwell (teased and spoiled by 3 aunties and 3 uncles) is of being surrounded by abundant colour.  My grandmother's choice of softfurnishings and curtains ensured it was a warm enviornment reminiscent of the Caribbean sun.  The women dressed like a rainbow tribe but the men were more subtle and so sharp in their shot teal suits, plum knitted ties, crisp shirts finished with tie-pins and cufflinks. They definately had outfit pride!

I am always very excited to be involved in the special day of the grooms (and couples) who choose to include us in their outfit planning.  It is always a pleasure to discuss options from our tweed range that is produced exclusively for Cock & Bull Menswear by Breanish Tweed as well as discuss the finishing touches and accessory options that can make the outfit extra special.

New Collection Tweed Wedding Suits

As the Cock & Bull Menswear is about producing lifestyle items that journey into our everyday life we never planned to cater for weddings or special occassions so it has been a pleasure to have something that we did not set out to do become a small part of the Cock & Bull Menswear collection for 2016.

We have not yet told the story of how a Scottish artisan mill now weaves exclusively for us (that is the subject of another blog), but we are blessed and privileged to be in that very posiiton.  We would like to now offer a ready-to-wear selection of 2-piece and 3-piece suits from early 2016.

New 2015 Collections at Cock & Bull Menswear

Organic Textiles | Artisan Production | Made In the UK | New Collections

It has been 36 months since the concept of Cock & Bull Menswear was born.  Back in the days when it was still just a glimmer in our eyes, we envisioned a collection of menswear staples that would marry good  dependable design with sustainable textiles, local manufacturing and sound business practice.

Since then we have slowly developed all the items within the line at a pace that was condusive with ticking boxes across all of our business goals and practices. Those boxes included sourcing only the textiles we were convinced were being produced in a sustainable way i.e. using organic cottons, organic hemps, etc. and using handwoven textiles when possible which preserved livelihoods and traditional artisan methods in Scotland and India.

36 months along we are a litte less green about how to produce garments in a country that had a very high percentage of its clothing factory doors close in the 90's. Our commitment to producing in the UK has resulted in use being able to developing close relationships with our producers.  We have a specific and skilled workforce producing the various elements of the range including traditional British hat makers in Yorkshire, weavers in Scotland , jean makers in Birmingham and shirt makers in London.

Our continued search for sustainable textiles has born fruit and we are very excited to be introducing new colours and textures throughout the year.  For 2015 we are focused on adding around 12 new  items to our line including long awaited jackets and coats (the first of which will be arriving for Spring.  In addition, we will be looking for new outlets to carry the Cock & Bull Menswear line and so will be dipping our toes into the waters of wholesale distribution.

So it looks set to be another busy and exciting year for us with our focus firmly set on delivery more choice and being seen in more places.

COMING SOON: Organic Cotton Chambray Shirts

28 Mar 2014
New Collections | Made In the UK | Organic Cotton

A genuine classicly goodlooking chambray shirt should be a staple of every man (and woman's) wardrobe so we have created a minimalist version made from organic cotton chambray.

For the uninitiated chambray is a plain, closely woven frabric made from 2-ply cotton which has a slight luster. The vertical warp thread is dyed while the weft (horizontal) thread is usually unbleached or white which gives it a speckled denim look. There is normally a white selvedge edge.  It can be woven into a number of weights but is classically a shirt weight.

More recently used as a workwear fabric, it is often a light blue but can also be found in an array of colours. Due to its strength the ability to wash and wear chambray for a very long time, when well made a  chambray shirt can become so faded it can appear white over time.

We are adding the final touches to our new addition to the Cock & Bull Menswear range.  Each of the shirts have been in collaboration with a seasoned tailor and are finished with a stand collar.

We produced in 4 sizes:  S, M, L & XL with a finished length at the back of between 80-83 cms.
